Observation

1. Indications

Observation is indicated for nondisplaced stable fractures with premorbid occlusion in compliant patients, edentulous patients with minimal fracture displacement, and when the general condition of the patient does not allow for surgical intervention.

Pitfall: It is easy to miss a minor degree of malocclusion in a barely displaced fracture. These fractures generally respond to MMF and elastic traction and are usually resolved without open reduction or osteotomy.
