Supine position

Position the patient supine. Place a sterile pack under the knee to maintain 30° of flexion. At times full extension of the knee may be necessary to reduce traction on the patellar ligament.

Floating position

This position can be used for operating on the top leg for a lateral approach or the bottom leg for a medial approach to the proximal tibia.

It allows the patient to be rolled to a more supine position if a second more anterior approach is required beyond a posterior or posterolateral approach.

Lateral position

The patient is placed in a lateral position with all bony prominences padded. The affected top leg is extended. The bottom leg is flexed and positioned more anterior.

Place the patient prone. The limb is placed on a raft lifting the knee above the level of the contralateral knee to allow for unhindered lateral imaging.
