Le Fort I fractures in edentulous patients with atrophic maxilla are commonly treated by observation and a soft diet. The clinician is encouraged to remove the patient's dentures to ensure that he/she is not chewing during the healing process.
This technique may not prevent superior and posterior displacement of the maxilla, which may encroach on the nasal airway. This deformity may make denture retention challenging.
For aftercare and rehabilitation following observation, please refer to your local protocol.
