Le Fort I fracture, simple

Definition

A simple fracture line extends from the piriform aperture through the lateral nasal walls, and the medial and lateral buttresses of the maxilla. The fracture extends posteriorly, separating from or comminuting the pterygoid plates.

Le Fort I linear fracture

Le Fort I simple fractures are usually related to posterior displacement (posterior occlusal premature contact) and anterior open bite. Le Fort I simple fractures generally cause inferior displacement of the posterior maxilla and anterior and superior displacement of the anterior maxilla. There is premature contact of the posterior maxillary and mandibular teeth creating an anterior open bite with a resulting malocclusion.
