Approaches not generally recommended

Ethmoidal approach

The ethmoidal approach allows for excellent visualization of the medial canthal area. Unfortunately, it commonly results in a very obvious scar band (web) in the medial canthal area. Moreover, this approach may damage nerves responsible for the involuntary blink reflex.

This medial canthal band is particularly evident in younger patients. Therefore, we do not recommend using this approach except when the other common approaches are inadequate.

Ethmoidal approach.
