The horse is placed under general anesthesia in dorsal recumbency with the head extended. Custom-made wedges are used to stabilize the neck in a perfect sagittal position with good alignment of C2 and C3.
The surgical site is aseptically prepared for a surgical intervention and impermeable drapes are applied in routine fashion. The aseptically draped arm of the fluoroscope is positioned in horizontal position at the level of the neck.
