Arthroscopic approach for equine patellar fractures

1. Apical fractures

The arthroscope is placed in the cranial aspect of the femoropatellar joint distal to the patella.

Appropriate instrument portal(s) are made in the suprapatellar pouch.

2. Parasagittal fractures

The arthroscope is placed in the cranial aspect of the femoropatellar joint and appropriate instrument portal(s) are made.

3. Distal fractures

The arthroscope is placed in the cranial aspect of the femoropatellar joint at its most distal extent. This aids in identifying the fragment on the distal aspect of the patella.

Appropriate instrument portal(s) are made in the femoropatellar joint.
