42-C2 Complex segmental fracture

42-C2 fractures

42-C2 are complex segmental fractures.

These fractures are characterized by multiple, non-communicating fracture lines in the same bone, effectively dividing the bone into segments. 42-C2 are often called segmental fractures.

42-C fractures are generally caused by high energy trauma, often road traffic accidents or gunshot wounds.

Clinical signs

  • Swelling of the region
  • Abnormal movement in the tibia shaft
  • Pain
  • Non weight bearing on the limb
  • Soft tissue damage


Craniocaudal and lateral radiographic views are needed.
