Glenoid implant stable, good bone

General considerations

Fractures of the glenoid with a stable implant and good bone are extremely rare. They may be more common in reverse total shoulder replacement.

Etiology

A direct impact to the shoulder or shoulder girdle can cause an undisplaced fracture of the neck of the scapula.

Clinical signs

  • Pain
  • Decreased range of motion
  • Temporary weakness in the shoulder
  • Symptoms resolve with union of the fracture

Imaging

  • Persistent discomfort after trauma may be evaluated with x-ray and CT scans
