Fracture around stable patellar component and good bone stock

General considerations

If the patella component remains stable, standard tension band fixation principles can be applied.

These fractures are classified by UCPF as V.34-B1.

Stable component, good bone quality

Etiology

Fall onto flexed knee.

Imaging

Plain X-rays remain the first line of investigation.

CT Scan can be used to assess the size and position of the fragments and implant stability.

Comparison with previous X-rays is useful.
