Bed rest

In extremely medically comorbid patients with fractures that do not present with imminent soft tissue concerns, bed rest may be considered.

Critical to this decision would be fractures that do not present with gross deformity of the limb.

Skilled nursing care must be provided to prevent decubitus ulcerations and other medical complications. These patients are often not expected to live through their initial hospitalization due to reasons other than their periprosthetic fracture.
