Oblique tibial shaft fracture with associated proximal fibular fracture

Highlights

This module covers the treatment options for:

  • Greenstick and toddler’s fracture of the tibia
  • Simple and multifragmentary fractures of the tibial shaft
  • Isolated fibular fracture

This includes detailed procedures on elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN), external fixation, and plate fixation, in addition to nonoperative management with casting and splinting.

Recommendations by the editors

We have introduced a number of technical improvements to this module.

The section on MIPO management of tibial shaft fractures has been added as this technique is becoming more prevalent in the management of the injured adolescent.

We have also made improvements to other modules including the use of ESIN in the management of tibial shaft fractures.
