22r-D/5   Radius, complete oblique or spiral

Complete oblique (>30°) or spiral fractures, simple and multifragmentary (22r-D/5.1 and 5.2), are inherently unstable.

Isolated complete radial shaft fractures with an intact ulna are rare.

An isolated radial fracture with substantial deformity is likely to be caused by rotational trauma leading to forced supination or pronation.

Note: Always consider distal radioulnar joint dislocation (Galeazzi injury) especially in the older child.
