13-M/3.1 III and IV   Simple metaphyseal, complete with/without contact between fracture planes

The pattern of this fracture is characterized by a complete metaphyseal fracture which is angulated in at least two planes (varus/valgus and flexion/extension). The fracture has a rotational component, but, independent of the type of displacement, some contact still exists between the fracture fragments.

Very young child (under 3 years):

• Potational displacement
• No cortical continuity
• Contact between fracture fragments

Older child (older than 6 years):

• Rotational displacement
• No cortical continuity
• Contact between fracture fragments

The pattern of this fracture is characterized by a complete metaphyseal fracture without any fracture plane contact.

Very young child (under 3 years):

• Completely displaced
• No contact between fracture planes

Young child (3-6 years):

• Completely displaced
• No contact between fracture planes
