Extraarticular fracture, metaphyseal wedge or multifragmentary

Extraarticular wedge or multifragmentary metaphyseal fractures are classified by the AO/OTA as 41A3 fractures.

They are high velocity injuries usually associated with considerable soft-tissue trauma. They are very unstable and require surgical stabilization. Because of the soft-tissue injury and instability and difficulties in securing stabilization, complications are frequent.
