Avulsion fracture of the tibial tubercle

These are extraarticular fractures of the tibial tubercle, classified by the AO/OTA as 41A1.2 fractures. These fractures are produced by an avulsion mechanism (resulting from traction of the patellar ligament). This fracture may often be associated with a knee dislocation.

Like the tibial eminence avulsion fractures, this is probably an injury more common in adolescence.
