13B1   Partial articular, lateral sagittal fracture

Definition

These fractures are classified by the AO/OTA as 13B1.

The fracture may be one of the following types:

  • Simple transtrochlear fracture (13B1.1)
  • Capitellar fracture (13B1.2), transcapitellar (q), or between capitellum and trochlea (r)
Partial articular, lateral sagittal, simple transtrochlear and capitellar fracture
  • Fragmentary transtrochlear fracture (13B1.3)

Lateral and frontal fracture types overlap.

Partial articular, lateral sagittal, fragmentary transtrochlear fracture

Further characteristics

The partial articular multifragmentary fractures are often associated with impaction of the posterior part of the lateral column and/or the posterior trochlea.
