13A2.2   Extraarticular, simple oblique fracture

Definition

This fracture type is classified by the AO/OTA as 13A2.2.

The obliquity of the fracture plane can be in either direction:

  • Obliquely distal and lateral
Extraarticular, simple oblique fracture

Further characteristics

This fracture may occur in a young patient with strong bone. Shear forces lead to a simple oblique separation of the metaphyseal/articular block from the shaft.

The radial and ulnar nerves are vulnerable to traction injury or entrapment.
