Partial articular fracture of the radius, involving the volar rim (reverse Barton’s, Goyrand-Smith II)

Introduction

These fractures of the palmar rim include a portion of the articular surface and may be simple or multifragmentary.

Simple

In these fractures, there is a single, palmar rim fragment. This may be a relatively small fragment avulsed by the volar capsule, or it may include a significant portion of the articular surface.

These are classified by AO/OTA as 2R3B3.1.

There may be an associated ulnar injury. This is usually a fracture of the ulnar styloid process, but other ulnar fractures are possible.

Fragmentary

These are multifragmentary fractures of the palmar rim (including a portion of the articular surface).

These are classified by AO/OTA as 2R3B3.3.

There may be an associated ulnar injury. This is usually a fracture of the ulnar styloid process, but other ulnar fractures are possible.
