Palato alveolar deformities are usually the result of avulsive complex maxillary fractures.
Even a properly reduced maxillary fracture may leave a defect when combined with bone loss.
The result may be an oroantral, an oronasal fistula, an alveolar defect or a combination of the above.
This illustration shows an oronasal fistulae.
Oro antral fistulae typically results from loss of posterior maxillary segment.
