Vertical mandibular hyperplasia

Definition: Elongation of the ascending ramus, the mandibular bodies, and/or the chin.

Characteristics of vertical hyperplasia of the mandible:

  • Depending on the affected part of the mandible, elongation of posterior lower face (rare), low (flat) occlusal and mandibular plane angle
  • If the mandibular body or chin is affected, the lower face or chin may be elongated
