Mandibular advancement by distraction osteogenesis

1. Sagittal mandibular lengthening by DO

Mandibular distraction may be performed in the neonatal period using small scale internal or external devices. The goal of surgery is to lengthen the hypoplastic mandible and treat glossoptosis. The procedure utilizing an internal device is performed as shown for Pruzansky type I and type II mandible deformities.
