Subcapital (metatarsal neck) fractures of the middle metatarsals usually involve 2 or more adjacent rays.

They are typically the result of torsional stresses applied to the forefoot during weight bearing.

Imaging

Diagnosis is confirmed by x-rays in AP, lateral, and oblique projections.
